Guys, we are beyond excited for this prom season because for the first time in what feels like forever, there are NO RULES when it comes to menswear! Gone are the days when the guys are simply another accessory; you deserve your moment, too. Your prom style isn’t just about matching your date; it’s about expressing your own personal style.
And while tuxes and suits are still pretty much structurally the same as they have been over the past decade, it’s how you’re wearing them that’s changing. It’s the difference between wearing your clothes and styling them. We picked the four most common aesthetics that we come across and how to style them accordingly. It’s your night, after all, you should feel like YOU.

You like a classic look, something you don’t need to think too hard about. Neutrals are your safe space, but you’re not boring. You like a good fit and know when you look good. You want to look effortless, but let’s be real, there’s a little effort. Like, your hair routine may or may not take longer than your shower, and for that, we applaud you.

Prom’s not really your scene, but your friends are going, so you’re going too. You may as well lean in, right? Don’t worry, we’re not going to try to put you in a teal vest (though we totally have them). You’re more of a black-on-black-on-black kinda guy, and we get it. Ditch the tux; go with a black three-piece suit, a black button-down shirt, and a black necktie. If you’re feeling emo, you could switch the shirt for a black turtleneck. Want to spice things up a bit? Go with some studded loafers. Oh, and black nails are a must.

You’re known for your style. You were a year ahead of the wide-leg jeans, and you’ve been rocking a pearl necklace before Harry Styles. You’re gonna want to go tux, because, let’s be real, you’ve been dying to have an occasion for one, and the time has come. But you’re going to ditch the vest and cummerbund. Instead, you’re going to pair it with a crisp white button-up, unbuttoned just a bit to show off your favorite necklace. If you wear a bow tie, leave it untied and draped around your collar. Your shoes should be a moment, so just pick a cool pair that speaks to you. Then, you’re going to rock this season’s hottest menswear accessory, the brooch. Where does one find a brooch? You could hit up any department store at the mall, but the best place to find real, solid pieces is at the thrift store. Pop that gem onto your lapel, and the selfies practically take themselves. Best dressed? Yep, no contest.

You live online, so you spend most of your waking hours in athleisure. So, why would you squeeze yourself into a million layers for prom? It’s just not you. Instead, you’re going to rock a dark blue or black suit, and underneath? A gray hoodie. Pair the look with some leather sneakers, and you’re golden.
None of those aesthetics speaks to you? We love a challenge. Come on in and tell one of our stylists a bit about you and watch them work their magic. If you do have a date (LUCKY YOU!) and you’d like to coordinate? We have colored vests, and our stylists can help you match.
